Wilkins moves over to the city

At 5:30 pm Friday, the mayor’s office sent out a press release that Keith Wilkins has been hired as the new assistant city administrator.

Why it was done so late that it didn’t make most news deadlines is strange, but that’s how things tend to go a city hall.

Wilkins is the Director of the Community and Environment Department for the Escambia Board of County Commissioners. He brings to the Hayward administration much needed municipal experience.

“Keith is the right person with the right temperament and the right talent-set to keep us moving forward,” Hayward said in the press release. “I have tremendous respect for the work Keith has done at the County and his long history of collaboration with the City on projects that have benefitted our entire area. His experience and values match up very well with my team and I know that he will help us maintain our momentum as work starts on a number of major projects around the City.”

Wilkins is expected to start his new job at the end of November, according to the press release.

For those keeping score, the county this summer picked up Pensacola Police Chief Chip Simmons as assistant county administrator. Now the city has taken Wilkins as assistant city administrator.
