Will City Council follow Gould example?

Last week we saw a former city council member blast the Supervisor of Elections for not delaying the release of public records. This week the Pensacola City Council holds a special workshop to possibly redefine its powers and create its own staff and legal counsel. What’s next?

In Gould, Ark., the town council passed a new ordinance that states, “No new organizations shall be allowed to exist within the city of Gould without approval from majority of the city council.”

According to Gawker.com, the ordinance is so poorly written that it may also ban any discussion of politics without council approval.

Fortunately the mayor of Gould vetoed it….but wait, the council overrode the vote. When the Gould city attorney deemed the ordinance unlawful, the council tried to fire the attorney.

The Arkansas Time also reported on this lunacy.
