Wu: Defender of Home Rule

The Florida League of Cities will honor Pensacola City Council Vice President P.C. Wu on Friday, May 11, with the Defender of Home Rule Award during the Northwest Florida League of Cities Annual Summer Dinner at the Wyndham Bay Point Golf Resort in Panama City Beach starting at 7 p.m.

This prestigious award is being presented to Council Vice President Wu for his tireless efforts during the 2012 legislative session to protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities and going above and beyond to assist the League in its lobbying efforts. Defender of Home Rule recipients are local government officials who consistently voted and advocated on behalf of the League and its members. Florida League of Cities legislative team members Ryan Matthews and Casey Cook will present the award to City Council Vice President Wu.

Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley stated, “Always present, ever eager to help, P.C. Wu is someone who makes an impact over and over again. We cannot express our gratitude enough to someone who never fails to stand up for home rule. The League of Cities is honored to give P.C. Wu this prestigious award on behalf of Florida’s 410 cities and his fellow municipal officials. Thank you P.C. Wu for everything you do for the League and for the State of Florida.”

City Council Vice President Wu is a Professor Emeritus at the University of West Florida. He is the recipient of numerous Fort Walton Beach Center Outstanding Professor Awards and the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Service Award. He was elected to the City Council in 2004. He also serves on the West Florida Regional Planning Council and is Past President of the Northwest Florida League of Cities and is on the Executive Board and Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities.
