Yikes, Ascension reports $1.8B loss

Becker’s Healthcare reports Ascension, the parent company of Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, reported a net loss of $1.8 billion for the 12 months ended June 30. The previous year, the 144-hospital system had a net income of $5.7 billion – $7.5 billion reversal.

Becker’s reports that 53% of the hospitals across the country are projected to have negative margins for the rest of the year.

What happens to the local healthcare market with Baptist opens its new campus next year? Baptist will need to rapidly increase its revenues to cover its debt service and its customers will have to come from HCA Florida West or Ascension Sacred Heart.
