Cumulus switches WCOA 100.7 FM to WJTQ 100.7

February 28, 2014

Today at 10:07 a.m., Cumulus will announce a new format for WCOA 100.7 FM. The station dropped the news talk format and is running a loop announcing the new station will be WJTQ.

IN Your Head Radio will move to television. We will have a weekly show on WUWF TV that we will launch in late March. My producer, Lafayette Cooper, III, will shift to Magic 106.

I got back into radio knowing that the station would eventually “flip” formats. Earlier this month, Cumulus announced a rebrand for WXBM, making it part of its new country music NASH system so I knew WCOA 100.7 was next on the list.

It was a fun ride. We will keep the radio interviews up on this site and will add segments from the television show when it airs.

Where do we go now for News updates? This country, and its economy, are in trouble. Phil Valentine, Mark Levine (sp), and Michael Savage were pro-liberty. The people are starving for someone, anyone, in the media to sound the alarm, when their property and/or liberty are threatened by an out of control Government. I guess we will have to rely on each other (a good thing), and what we can gleen from the Internet. The Internet is now the last platform of “Free Speech”.

You know radio is a dying breed for advertising when they are now selling 5 second spots as is most of traditional media. TV reps are pushing 15sec ads now.

Upset that on my hour and a half ride home I will no longer be able to listen to Phil Valentine. I’m a younger guy and not that into politics but that show was the closest thing to an understanding of current events I’ve come across.

radio in Pensacola keeps dying, nothing left but corporate programmed repetitive garbage playlists.

Said day in Pensacola. It started with a crazy play of a basketball bouncing and sounds of a football game on Thursday night, knew something was up. 100.7 was, used to be, ain’t no more, #1 on the preset. Looked and couldn’t find another GOOD station on the dial. I called the station and with a raised brow casted a good ole’ “What ya think ya doing” vote on the format change.

It’s a shame that Cumulus made the change. 100.7 was an opportunity to hear some less mainstream voices and will be missed.
We really needed one more station playing music in this town though.
    Catch you on tv.
