School Superintendent Malcolm Thomas used to track on his webpage the improvement of school grades for the elementary and middle schools in his district – see his analysis. Then he stopped in 2012.
In 2011, 52 percent of the middle and elementary schools were ‘A’s; 67 percent were ‘A’/’B’; and 95 percent were ‘A’/’B’/’C.’Â Superintendent Thomas was well on his way of meeting his 2008 campaign goal of “All schools scoring “C” or above on state accountability system”–just in time for the 2012 election.
2011 Grade | Elem | Middle | Total
A | 17 | 4 | 22 | 52% |
B | 6 | 0 | 6 | 14% |
C | 8 | 4 | 12 | 29% |
D | 2 | 0 | 2 | 5% |
F | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0% |
I | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
Grand Total | 33 | 9 | 42 |
What would his analysis look like today if he updated it? 35 percent are D’s.
2018 Grade | Elem | Middle | Total
A | 6 | 1 | 7 | 18% |
B | 5 | 1 | 6 | 15% |
C | 9 | 3 | 12 | 30% |
D | 11 | 3 | 14 | 35% |
F | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0% |
I | 0 | 1 | 1 | |
Grand Total | 31 | 9 | 40 | |
2011 | 2018 | Â Drop | ||
A’s | 52% | 18% | 34% | |
A/B | 66% | 33% | 34% | |

It appears when the numbers go the other direction, Superintendent Thomas quits tracking them on his webpage. The state is taking over several of the D schools. Thomas will not meet his “all C schools” goal by 2020, unless the state can improve them.
