We are hearing that teachers, just out of school, are borrowing their friends’ boats. They signed up for the Vessels of Opportunity program this week and already have been activated—-getting checks for $1200-$2000 per day.
Others are taking vacations and signing up, too. Charter boats and fishing boats still sit idle. BP still hasn’t fixed the program and Northwest Florida has plenty of people willing to take money intended to help those who depend on the Gulf of Mexico for their living.
Today, Commissioner Grover Robinson said that he wished that the local EOC was given some control of programs such as these. “We would make sure charter boats were used before the pleasure boats.”
