Okaloosa TDC cancels BP debit cards

Less than one week after launching its BP-funded debit card program to attract tourists, Okaloosa County TDC has had to cancel it. The Okaloosa County Convention and Visitors Bureau kicked-off its gift card program last Friday, Sept. 17. Anyone booking a 2-night stay at any participating lodging resort or hotel between now and the end of October, received a $200 gift card. BP had given the TDC $750,000 for the program. By Saturday evening, more than 1200 people had signed up for the program.

Good news, right? Wrong! Daily News reports the TDC canceled the program because numerous lodgings did not follow the TDC’s guidelines for the program.
