Charter school districts coming

Florida Tribune reports House and Senate have passed SB 1546. Sponsored by Sen. John Thrasher, R-Jacksonville, in the Senate and Rep. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland, in the House, SB 1546 paves the way for charter schools designated “high-performing” to create their own districts and gives them 15-year charters. The schools would be allowed to grow by 25 percent as long as they maintained A or B averages, would formalize an appeals process for schools whose charters are appealed or revoked, and would allow three or more charters to create high-performing charter school systems.
