Murdoch editor tricked murder victim’s mother

The Guardian reports that former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks gave victim’s mother a cell phone that News of the World eavesdropped on. Brooks and her staff listened to the voicemail of Sara Payne, the mother of an 8-year-old girl who was murdered in 2000,
The mother, not knowing that she had been tricked, wrote a farewell column for the paper’s final edition on 10 July, referring to its staff as “my good and trusted friends”.
