From Backpacks to Briefcases

Press Release: The Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to support the UWF Job Shadowing and Mentoring Program. This program provides local employers an avenue to connect with an interested UWF student to provide guidance in the student’s intended career path – essentially, assisting students in moving from backpacks to briefcases! Area companies and organizations will have the opportunity to make a difference in a student’s life by offering tips and advice as he or she is considering a particular career. Students spend a half day, full day, or several days (based on the availability of the mentor) visiting an organization, investigating a career field and experiencing a typical day on the job.

The Pensacola Chamber is assisting UWF in identifying businesses who are interested in hosting and mentoring a student. As this program targets first, second and third year students, it could serve as a precursor to co-op and internship opportunities. Connecting students and employers is an important part of our economic development strategy, as we train and retain top talent in our area.

If your business would like to meaningfully engage our area students, please contact Kelly Reeser, kreeser@pensacolachamber.com to register or for more information.
