FEMA antes up for 2005 hurricanes

Ivan

The Democratic Congress recently passed a bill mandating that FEMA pay 100% of the cleanup and repair costs of local governments for the 2005 hurricanes. This means another $386 million for the state. Escambia County gets $12.2 million; Santa Rosa $9 million; Okaloosa $2.1 million
Do you think George Touart and the gang will rebate any of it to the property owners? Remember one of the reasons for not rolling back the tax rate last year was the unreimbursed costs for Hurricane Dennis and the “need” to rebuild reserves.
