OTHER PLACES PUBLISHING RELEASES ITS FIRST EUROPEAN TRAVEL GUIDE
Other Places Publishing Ukraine – by Ashley Hardaway – Now Available

Other Places Publishing is a publisher focused on a new series of travel guides that bring local insight, culture and adventure to the intrepid traveler. What makes our series of travel guides so unique is that each book is written and researched by longtime residents of each country. Not only do our writers live in-country, they are all former Peace Corps Volunteers having experienced a culture and people like few outsiders can.

Peace Corps sends adventurous volunteers overseas for 27 months of service, including intensive cultural and language training. During their service, Peace Corps Volunteers often live with local families, become intricate parts of their communities, and experience everything their countries have to offer. PCVs can hardly be considered as “expatriates,” but rather as locals. Living, working and playing all while making their host country a second home.

Ashley Hardaway is a native of Pensacola, Florida who served in a 2,000 person village in Kherson Oblast Ukraine from 2006-2008. She returned in late 2010 to further research this travel guide, circumnavigating the county on an epic nine week adventure that would take her from the snowy peaks of the Carpathians, to the crystal beaches of Crimea. Along the way she hitchhiked in a horse-drawn buggy, slept in a hut propped up on a beach shore, toured the underground wine cellar of one of Crimea’s former oligarchs, sipped cappuccinos in a masochism-themed cafe and had an existential crisis while touring Chernobyl.

And now you can too! Available on Amazon.com, BarnesandNobles.com, as well as many bookstores, this unique travel guide provides insight into Ukraine’s vast history in a – dare we say – fun way. Travelers will be eased into this Eastern European country’s cultural norms and introduced to its taboos so that the dreaded cross-cultural no-no’s can be avoided. With transliterations of all entries, firsthand reviews and recommendations, and a focus on the country’s must-see places and off-the-beaten-path gems, this guidebook will act like your international chaperone.

Having lived and worked in Ukraine, the author got to know the country through the slow burn of a budding relationship. This isn’t merely a one-off observation – this is true love.
