The results of a new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson show that Sunday morning news shows do the most to help people learn about current events, while some outlets, especially Fox News, lead people to be even less informed than those who they don’t watch any news at all“
“There is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse on these questions than those who don’t watch any news at all,†says Dan Cassino, a professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson.
According to the telephone poll of 612 New Jersey adults, Fox News viewers are 18 percentage points less likely to know that the Egyptian uprising was successful, and 6 percentage points less likely to know that the one in Syria has not been.
The most informed respondents? People who listen to NPR and those who watch Sunday morning news programs and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.†No wonder Republicans like Gov. Rick Scott want to shutdown NPR.
