County land sale buzz

From a concerned citizen:

Can you look into why the county is selling what they call surplus land at the Equestrian Center? The land in question is 18 acres of the Equestrian Center. The 18 acres sits next to a new subdivision that will add more houses right next to the center on its west side. It appears the land is being put out there for one particular developer and kept on the down low. It’s on the county web page for sale to the highest bidder.

From my memory back when the property was purchased by the county and the public meetings were held the master plan of the equestrian park included land for future ball fields and soccer fields for the entire Beulah community. They did that because of the outcry from people that wouldn’t get any benefit from an equestrian center so they added the future ball park elements.

The county already spends a fortune making sure the community is aware of future developments by placing signs out on the right of way for the neighbors to get all pissed off at coming developments why doesn’t the commission make the county put signs in front of “land for sale parcels” so everyone will have a shot at it.

I guarantee you only a choice few know about this sale and one more they didn’t want to know. This is ridiculous. At the least its sneaky and creates more doubt that our leaders have the community well being at heart. They obviously do not. Why would the county want to sell land on a major highway and that is part of such a fine county amenity? That is not what I would call surplus.
