A few things to toast this weekend:
Blue Angels
They practice today and fly over Pensacola Beach again on Saturday. Last year, I wrote a cover story on them: Pensacola’s Own Heroes
—————————————
A.A. Dixon Charter School of Excellence
The little inner-city school has fought Superintendent Malcolm Thomas, School Board Member Jeff Bergosh and the district administration all year. The school grades show that the school had the greatest improvement of any school in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, despite the FCAT being tougher.

Blue Wahoos
Watch the team’s new shortstop, Billy Hamilton, and his base-running prowess give the Suns’ catchers nightmares. They play Saturday-Tuesday at Maritime Park.

Dr. Jack Kichler
A charter member of the Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council and long-serving board member passed away on July 11. Dr. Kichler was the group’s first home hospitality host, volunteering to feed international visitors even before GCCDC had officially been accepted into the IVLP network. He will be missed locally and internationally.
And….
Mayor Ashton Hayward’s return to Pensacola on Saturday.
Fried Mullet
Deluna Fest Movie Nights
Pensacola City Council not meeting this week
