Local budget summit needed

It’s time all the constitutional officers, county commissioners and city councils to get together and look at consolidation. Where can they share costs? How can money be saved?

Last winter, I suggested a blue ribbon panel to study consolidation (“Feeding at the Trough” ), but no one wanted to touch it. Now it’s critical that we do it. The issue is a political hot potato – Few want to challenge the sheriff. Jobs will be lost and power bases impacted.

But we shouldn’t take a band-aid approach to this. BTW: Where is TaxWatch on their study of the BOCC budget? Their analysis will help – but it doesn’t cover Pensacola or the ECSO budgets.
