County buys land for westside park

The Perdido Bay Youth Sports Association will get its ball park. Escambia County commissioners on Thursday approved, by a 4-1 vote, the purchase of 217 acres on Bauer Road for $1.41 million from the Marks family. It was this property that was rejected by the commission in August when the PNJ reported that County Administrator George Touart had outside business relationships with the real estate broker, Ronnie Swaine, and the son-in-law of the property owner, Neal Nash.

Four months later, the county still buys the land. Actually it always was a good deal and there isn’t many other such properties available in the southeast part of the county.
