Tech park may be ambushed

Rumors are flying that a group may try to ambush the Commerce Tech Park tonight at the Pensacola City Council meeting. There may be a push to add a minority contractor set-aside as condition for the city to participate in the project. The Pensacola City Council has yet to make any commitment towards helping minority contractors.

The CMPA has a Covenant with the Community agreement that the council has endorsed, but they have not done anything on other city projects.

Tonight will be an interesting meeting. I endorse the Contractors’ Academy and the Covenant with the Community. A minority set-aside program needs to be thought out before it’s used to halt a project that could mean good paying jobs for this community.

Why hasn’t the council done anything on this? The Covenant with the Community was signed by CMPA over a year ago.
