Deployment of the Joe Patti Memorial Reef has been postponed due to weather conditions. The memorial was scheduled to be sunk in the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow morning.
The deployment will be rescheduled as per weather conditions.
The reef consists of a barge adorned with stainless steel art pieces sponsored by residents and businesses in the area. The project started out as a memorial to the Patti seafood legacy, and evolved into a collaboration with the Emerald Coastkeepers; the mounted memorial pieces were commissioned, with the proceeds benefiting environmental restoration and education.
The barge will be sunk three miles out in the gulf. It will rest in about 50 feet of water, and is expected to attract fish as well as divers.
