New people will run

We are hearing several good candidates are considering runs at public office. School Board, County Commission, City Council and State House are the positions being considered.

In Escambia County, the Constitutional offices of Clerk of Courts, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser and Supervisor of Elections appear to be safe – which makes one wonder why we even hold elections for these posts.

Sheriff Ron McNesby has a huge campaign fund and is doing his campaigning in small neighborhood meetings – thereby avoiding public and media scrutiny. He can change his message to fit this audience and no one will know.

In Santa Rosa County, only Property Appraiser Greg Brown appears completely safe. There have been grumblings about the lack of technology in the Clerk and Elections offices. Tax Collector Robert McClure has lost many of his supporters – due to grand theft trial of his former manager and his personal financial problems.

Santa Rosa Sheriff Hall is in a dogfight for the GOP nomination, but Van Camp and Randall could split the south Santa Rosa County vote.
