Gunshots heard at memorial service for PHS student

A planned vigil for a slain 14-year-old Pensacola High student has been canceled after gunfire was heard in the neighborhood at another memorial service held on Sunday.

Kenteyanna Anderson was killed last Thursday in the Maxwell Street area, a few blocks from her high school. On Sunday, ministers, family and friends held a vigil for Anderson. While the ministers and family were speaking to the crowd, gun shots were heard nearby, which prompted the organizers to cancel the second vigil.

Cheryle Allen told WALA Fox 10: “I’m not going to put anyone in harm’s way and I would hate for it to be under my name and something should happen to someone.”

Escambia Sheriff’s Office investigators are seeking two individuals for questioning in the Sept. 19, 2013 shooting death of 14-year-old Kenteyonna Anderson.
