In recognition of the budget-slashing era in which local governments and their constituents find themselves, Hillsboro Beach’s commissioners voted to halve their salaries.

Previously, four commissioners earned $3,600 a year; Mayor Carmen R. McGarry was paid $7,800. Commissioners Alan J. Polin, Celinda Sawtelle, Thomas Puleri, and Vice Mayor Daniel Dodge will now receive $1,800 and McGarry will have an annual salary of $3,900.

Hillsboro Beach has about 3,000 residents during winter months.
