School Budget – it’s a mystery

Today, Escambia County school board meets today on its 2008-09 budget. They and the administration are the only ones who know how the school is spending our tax dollars. Escambia County and City of Pensacola have their budgets and financial reports on their websites. The School District does not.

The only thing close is a viewpoint by Barbara S. Linker, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Business Services, written in response to a PNJ article. The financial numbers in the pdf are for 2006-07. Read Linker viewpoint.

Why the mystery? Why can’t the public see the budget online?

We keep hearing the school has massive problems due to the budget cuts in Tallahassee. It would be nice if they shared the financial data —unfiltered.
