Winter Storm Leon January 2014 – Tuesday Afternoon Update

Escambia County Emergency Management Officials continue monitor as winter weather conditions impact Escambia County.

The National Weather Service is forecasting for frozen precipitation to continue through mid-afternoon turning to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow into the overnight hours.

Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) and ADA & Community Transit have suspended operations at 5 p.m. and will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, pending on weather.

The Pensacola International Airport has announced 40 flight cancellations. Passengers should check the status of their flight at www.flypensacola.com for real-time flight information.

Gulf Islands National Seashore has closed the visitor centers for the remainder of today and Wednesday, January 29. The campground and parks remain open for public use.

The Emerald Coast Utility Authority and City of Pensacola sanitation services are still running normal operations.

If ice accumulates on power lines an outage may occur call Gulf Power at 1 (800) 225-5797 for customer service.

The next Escambia County Emergency Operations Center media briefing will be held in the media room at Escambia County Public Safety, at 5:30 p.m. following the 5 p.m. National Weather Service conference call. All accredited media are invited to attend.
