Student Jazz Competition Results

The live finals of the Fourth Annual JSOP Student Jazz Competition took place Tuesday evening, March 25, at Pensacola State College’s Ashmore Auditorium. Audience members were treated to some fine jazz performed by the talented finalists accompanied by the Guffman Trio, consisting of Cynthia Domulot on piano, Fred Domulot on drums and Tom Latenser on bass. The student performers were all winners; the final placements within each division of the competition were as follows:


High School Instrumental Division

Avion Wright (drum set) from Washington High School
Kaleb Broom (tenor saxophone) from Washington High School
Dylan Williams (guitar) from Catholic High School

Jazz Vocalist Division
Isabelle Peterson from Escambia Virtual High School
Eion Blanchard from Tate High School
Ken Martin from Northwest Florida State College
Cruz Julio Jimenez from Tate High School

College Instrumental Division
Marquis Soles (drum set) from Pensacola State College
Jacob Dearrington (trumpet) from Pensacola State College
Martha Stokes (alto saxophone) from Pensacola State College

The winners will receive monetary awards to be used to further their jazz/music education. They will also be performing at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, at the 2014 Pensacola JazzFest in Seville Square.
