CR ranks hospitals

A new system from Consumer Reports rates nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide on the length of hospital stays and number of doctor visits for older adults facing chronic diseases. Nine area hospitals are rated.

When looking at Patient Cost per Doctor Visit, here is the ranking by least expensive:

HealthMark Regional Medical Center – $2,569
DeFuniak Springs, FL

Santa Rosa Medical Center – $2,660
Milton, FL

Gulf Breeze Hospital – $2,793
Gulf Breeze, FL

North Okaloosa Medical Center – $2,852
Crestview, FL

Twin Cities Hospital – $3,313
Niceville, FL

Baptist Hospital – $3,316

West Florida Hospital – $3,333

Sacred Heart – $3,504

Fort Walton Beach Medical Center – $3,614
