Governor Rick Scott has sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking that the president make a “major disaster declaration for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.” The initial request is only for Individual Assistance, but he anticipates a future request for a Public Assistance declaration.

“In Escambia County alone, initial damage assessments suggest that economic losses from overland flooding may exceed $50 million,” wrote Scott.
