Dirty campaigns locally

We have gotten several phone calls about a “push” poll that is being run against Democrat Lumon May in his race against incumbent Clay Ford for Florida House District 3.

The caller calls the voter and asks who they are voting for in the race. When the voter says Lumon May, the caller then asks if the person knows that Lumon May was a friend of Willie Junior.

For those new to the area, Willie Junior was a longtime Escambia County Commissioner who was indicted and testified against his fellow commissioner W.D. Childers. Childers is in prison. Junior committed suicide.

May had no relationship with Junior, but both people who reported the calls are white. Is the GOP that scared of May that it will resort to dirty smear campaigns this early?
