Escambia County Hungry Games begin June 1

The end of the school year means that 24,000 children in Escambia County will be searching for food over the next two and a half months. Escambia County will help fill the gap with its summer camp program.

Children ages 5-12 are invited to join Escambia County’s Department of Community Affairs for Play, Learn, Grow, a County-funded summer activity and food program.

Play, Learn, Grow Summer Camp Program

The camp is being held at Brownsville Community Center, 3200 West Desoto Street, and will include various recreational activities. The program will run Monday, June 1 to Friday, August 7. Camp hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There are two sessions available this summer:

Session 1: June 1 – July 2
Session 2: July 6 – August 7
Pre-registration will take place on Tuesday, May 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Center. Pre-registration is required to attend!

The registration fee is $25 per session, per family. Proof of child’s age and school enrollment are required to register. Acceptable verification documents include:

Play, Learn, Grow Summer Feeding Program

This program is free and open to school age participants. The program will run through Friday, August 7, at the various times and locations listed below:

Dorrie Miller Community Center, 2819 N. Miller Street

Monday, June 1 – Friday, August 7
Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ebonwood/Oakcrest Community Center, 3511 W. Scott Street

Monday, June 1 – Friday, August 7
Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Montclair Elementary School, 820 Massachusetts Avenue

Wednesday, June 3 – Friday, August 7
Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
