Inweekly has spoken with a source familiar with the Government Street stormwater project who says the soil being removed from the site is not contaminated by the pollutants coming from the old County Mosquito Treatment Facility. Apparently the chemical does not adhere to the soil.
Inweekly reporter Duwayne Escobedo has requested from the City the most recent soil tests to confirm this information. Stay tuned.
Soil contamination or soil pollution as part of land degradation is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (human-made) chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of waste.
