Petland to be picketed

The Junior Humane Society of Pensacola will mark St. Valentine’s Day by sponsoring a protest at PETLAND at 6235 Davis Highway in Pensacola from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. Anyone interested in joining this protest is welcome to meet in the shopping center by 11 a.m. They even invite you to bring your own sign.

“We want to educate the public about the plight of puppies from puppy mills,” said Frankie Van Horn, director the Junior Humane Society.

In November, the Humane Society of the United States released the details of an 8-month investigation into PETLAND Inc., and exposed it as the nation’s largest chain presently purchasing dogs from puppy mills.

“Puppy mills are mass-breeding facilities that raise dogs in shockingly poor conditions,” said a release from The HSUS. “Breeding animals at puppy mills are caged and continually bred for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever becoming part of a family. After their fertility wanes, the breeding animals are destroyed or discarded.”
