When did it start to go wrong for the Dems?

RichardsIn 1992, Texas Gov. Ann Richards was the Democratic poster child. She was out-spoken and fearless. Many liberals saw her as the first female presidential candidate. Then came the 1996 Texas governor race, when, as this article in alt-weekly San Antonio Current puts it, “Richards’s political career came to an abrupt end when George W. Bush, son of the man she’d ridiculed at the 1988 Democratic Convention for being “born with a silver foot in his mouth,” unseated her as governor of Texas.”

It was the beginning of the end for the Democratic Party and liberalism as we knew it.
