Jackson announces candidacy for sheriff

Heath Jackson, a sergeant with the Escambia County, Fla. sheriff’s office,  has announced his candidacy for sheriff of Escambia County, Ala. This will be third time the former chairman of the Escambia County, Ala. Republican Party has sought the position.

Jackson lost to the Democratic incumbent, Sheriff Grover Smith, in 2010 (6,531-4,203) and in 2014 (5,304-3,807).

Sheriff Smith announced in January that he would not seek reelection.  His chief deputy, Mike Lambert, is running for the position as a Democrat.
