Ascension Sacred Heart opens new Rehabilitation Center

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Ascension Sacred Heart has completed construction of a new Rehabilitation Center in Pensacola that will provide the latest technology and techniques for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

The facility opened March 2 and a community open house will be held on March 13 from 10 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to tour the facility at the open house.

The $9.5-million rehabilitation center is a 17,500-square-foot facility located at 4925 Grande Drive, near 12th Avenue and behind Cordova Square.

The new center will house two large gymnasium areas for therapy sessions. It also provides state-of-the-art equipment that includes the Zero G Gait and Balance System, a robotic body-weight support system that is the only one of its kind in the Pensacola area. Body-weight support training systems assist therapists and help patients to regain mobility after a stroke, orthopedic injury, spinal cord injury, balance disorders, or other neurological impairments.

The system, mounted on an overhead track, includes a harness that safely holds up patients while they practice walking, climbing stairs, bending, standing up and other daily movements.

“The body weight support system increases a patient’s confidence as they perform more challenging activities in their recovery training, while eliminating the risk of falling,” said Julie-Anne Rispoli, director of Ascension Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Services in Pensacola. “The system also can monitor and record each session to assist the therapist in keeping track of a patient’s functional progress.”

Other services at the center include orthopedic rehabilitation, lymphedema services, vestibular rehabilitation, and LSVT BIG & LOUD, which is an effective treatment to help people with Parkinson’s disease.

The facility also will be home to Ascension Sacred Heart’s occupational health program. Its services are designed to empower employers to gain control over health care expenses, while providing their employees the opportunity to improve their health and return to work.
