Childers has turned over more than half her staff in less than six years

It took several weeks, but Inweekly finally received the demographic data on Escambia County Clerk Pam Childers’ staff. We got the payroll information on her 160 employees, but the clerk did not provide forms that had race and gender information on 11 of them. Three were missing hire dates.

The numbers show Childers has had significant turnover over the past six years.

According to the data, 89 of her employees – 55.6% – have been hired since February 2017. One of four has been brought on since Childers’ re-election in 2020.

Of her 160 employees, 33 listed their race as Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Black, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander — 21%. However, 15 of those minority employees have been hired in the last 18 months.

The three highest-paid minority employees that Childers has hired are:

Accountant II-Treasury $26.37/hour – hired 8/9/21
Accountant I-Finance Disbursement $25.48/hour – hired 6/13/22
Office Assistant IV-Circuit Court $20.54/hour – hired 8/17/17

There are no other minorities hired since Childers took office in 2008 making more than $20/hour. Childers has 29 white employees that she has hired earning $20 or more per hour.
