Podcast: Massage Parlor conversion complete, Magdalene’s celebrates one year

Magdalene’s Gifts and Gatherings First Anniversary Celebration is set for Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll also be celebrating the recent opening of Magdalene’s House, a long-term residential home for adult women survivors of sexual exploitation.

Why it matters? Magdalene’s is located on the site of former massage parlor whose owner was convicted on human trafficking charges in November 2019. On April 1, 2021, Magdalene’s, Inc., took possession of that Gulf Breeze building. The community donated more than $50,000 for renovations, furnishings, equipment, inventory and supplies. Magdalene’s Gifts and Gatherings held its Grand Opening celebration on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.

The net proceeds serve women who have been or are at risk of being sexually exploited as well as to love and serve all women on their journey toward healing and restoration.

Dig Deeper: Magdalene’s Gifts and Gatherings offers items designed by local and national artists, featuring pieces created by survivors of trafficking and prostitution.

In 2022, Magdalene’s turned its attention to establishing Magdalene’s House, a long-term residential home for survivors of sexual exploitation. The closest long-term residential Florida facility for adult women survivors of sexual exploitation over the age of 24 is located in Jacksonville. With the support of the community, Magdalene’s was able to purchase a home in May of this year and Magdalene’s House opened on Sept. 1.
