Fairchild flip flops on referendum

I couldn’t believe that I read in the daily newspaper that Charlie “Pac Man” Fairchild is against making it easier for the citizens to bring referendums to the voters and by opposing the proposed charter, Fairchild is also against recall votes on elected officials and other citizen initiatives.

On March 19, 2006, Fairchild was Mr. Referendum and strongly defended the right to petition:

“In order to safeguard the citizens, they (City Fathers) incorporated Article III, Section 15 into the City Charter. This valuable proviso gives citizens the opportunity to challenge any decision of the council though a petition process. It provides the populace the safeguard needed to maintain proper balance between good government and the wants of a few.”
