Downtown Pensacola lost O’Riley Irish Pub owner and Downtown Improvement Board member Patti Sonnen, who died suddenly last week.

Elizabeth Patricia “Patti” Sonnen passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, in Pensacola at the age of 64. The loss of Patti has been a massive shock to everyone she has touched over the years.
Patti was born in Scotland on January 17, 1959. Her family moved to South Africa, and this is where she met Derek Sonnen at the age of 16. While living in South Africa they raised their two children, Warren, and Mandy. Eventually, the Sonnen family immigrated to the USA 30 years ago.
Patti was always very active and enjoyed pushing her limits whenever she could. From playing netball in her college days to finishing multiple Ironman’s and hiking Half Dome in Yosemite. But her greatest achievement was always being the center and the glue for her family. No matter the challenges, she always made sure her family was safe, loved and never had to fear anything.
Everyone she met would agree that she never tired and never stopped giving. Patti had a special spark in her that everyone felt. If you spent time with her, you left feeling like family, and she always made time for everyone. Somehow, she ran multiple businesses, raised a strong family, and always had time for her grandkids. Patti loved her grandkids, Taylor, Sienna, Sydney, Saige, and her soon-to-be-born grandson, Jack more than we could ever know.
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the memorial service begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

Another Summit Summit
The City of Pensacola is hosting a second open house on Tuesday, June 20 to gather input from the community about the Summit Boulevard Lane Repurposing Feasibility Study, as the city continues exploring options for potential lane repurposing on Summit Boulevard.
The open house will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Vickrey Resource Center, located at 2130 Summit Blvd. All members of the community are encouraged to come learn more about the feasibility study and provide their input.
Why this matters: The first open house took place on May 16, with great attendance and input from residents. The second open house will incorporate residents’ feedback from the first open house, along with gathering additional input from the community. There will not be a formal presentation, but residents are encouraged to stop by and share their feedback between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Dig Deeper: The City of Pensacola is completing a lane repurposing feasibility study of Summit Boulevard from North 12th Avenue to Spanish Trail. The purpose of the study is to evaluate lane repurposing and its impact on bicyclists, pedestrians, and motor vehicles.
A lane repurposing study looks at the feasibility of reassigning roadway space to achieve other purposes such as economic development, safety and mobility for all users.
There is currently no funding set aside for design or construction, but the city is exploring options for Summit Boulevard based on the community’s wants and needs.

Tropical Storm Bret
1. Bret is forecast to initially strengthen and then move across the Lesser Antilles near hurricane intensity on Thursday and Friday, bringing a risk of flooding from heavy rainfall, strong winds, and dangerous
storm surge and waves.
2. Given the larger than usual uncertainty in the track forecast, it is too early to specify the location and magnitude of where these hazards could occur. However, everyone in the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands should closely monitor updates to the forecast for Bret and have their hurricane plan in place.
