Daily Outtakes: Behind the headlines

DR Horton submitted its revised offer for 297 acres at OLF 8 in the Beulah community.

On WCOA yesterday, County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh outlined some of the aspects of the 27-page offer that he described as “very protective of the buyer.”

Changes:

1. Guarantee of “minor” ordinance and future uses changes. “That’ gonna be a thorny issue. It’s gonna be difficult ’cause it’s hard to guarantee a public process.”

2. The due diligence period was reduced from 12 months to six.

3. The earnest money will be $1.8 million, instead of two $900,000 payments.

  • However, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Kelly Krostag said, “We’re doing very well at hiring right now. It’s been better than years past.”

School Board member Bill Slayton shared that he had been told that Polk County was short 550 teachers. He said, “It assured me we’re not in this alone.”
