In Citrus County, County Commission candidate Jesse Rumson appeared to have qualified to run. The local newspaper, Citrus County Chronicle, published that he qualified.
- However, Rumson, who was set to face incumbent Holly Davis in the County Commission District 5 Republican Primary, neglected to check the yes or no line on the candidate oath regarding pending campaign fines. Candidates must check either the yes or no answer; leaving it blank is not an option.
Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Maureen “Mo” Baird discovered the error after the noon deadline on Friday, June 14. She notified Rumson Tuesday night that he would not be on the ballot.
Baird told Florida Politics: “It was an oversight on our part, but an error by the candidate. I’m the holder of the forms. I’m not responsible for making sure those forms are filled out correctly.”
Baird relied on a pair of Attorney General opinions that said mistakes caught on candidate qualifying forms must still be enforced even after the deadline has passed.
Florida Politics reported there was some confusion when Rumson first submitted his paperwork. He failed to sign the oath form before a notary and had to redo it. When he got the new form, Rumson failed to check the fines box. No one caught it.
Yesterday, Rumson said Wednesday he’s going to challenge Baird’s decision. He has already contacted Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office, an attorney and federal officials for help.
Rumson argued that he turned in his paperwork well before the June 14 qualifying deadline. Baird’s office had qualified him, and he was “state-certified” to be in the primary.
“Once I qualify, they can’t take me out,” Rumson told the Chronicle. “I’d like for her to just admit the error and reinstate me.”
Sound familiar?
Bruce Childers failed to turn in a complete Form 6. He was listed as qualified in the local newspaper. On the following Tuesday, it was discovered that he only submitted a photo of tablet screen showing the first page of Form 6. He was told that he did not meet the qualifications to run.
Bruce Childers is not a special snowflake.
More: Rumson is the second Citrus County candidate to see his campaign upended by a paperwork error. Tod Cloud’s candidacy for House District 23 ended when he failed to have his candidate oath notarized.

Cody, in a public statement on Nextdoor, Lynn Mott said that none of the people protesting at 221 Palafox on Monday approached anyone, but that when people asked you all were happy to answer their questions.
Was this one of the answers passers-by were receiving from you or anyone else on what your group was down there for–because a local reporter and his “they” planted a pipe bomb in what they mistook for Pam Chilcers’ car, instead blowing their nextdoor neighbor’s car to smithereens, launching it 40 feet in the air.
Hopefully you’ve reported all that to the authorities?
What undeniable proof? I have only a photo of the car. We need the investigators’ report.
One can assume with undeniable proof presented to you, You’ll still pervert the narrative. Lighting didn’t strike that vehicle lmao!!!
##RIGHTSIDEOFHISTORY##
I have no narrative, only sharing what I was told. We have seen no evidence or a law enforcement report that supports the Childers’ version of the incident. I’m not saying they are being untruthful, but I also know it’s always best to give law enforcement time to gather the facts and issue a report.
Were you there, C. Garnier? I would like to see the video.
I wait to see the note. The investigators’ report should include it.
Canvassing?
Stop canvassing comments Rick, that don’t fit your narrative, someone placed a pipe bomb on a vehicle, intended for Pam and Bruce Childers, Luckily they missed ??!!
Furthermore lighting doesn’t leave a death threat message prescribed in a NOTE!!!
Lighting strike Lmao, it was a pipe bomb, the explosion was 40 ft in the air lmao. Lightning doesn’t launch a vehicle 40ft in the air Lmao!!!
We all know what happened Rick don’t play dumb, the target was Pam and Bruce, but luckily they (Yall) Missed!!!
C. Garnier, Bruce and Pam’s vehicle was not “blown to pieces.” A neighbor’s vehicle caught fire during a heavy rainstorm. I was told that it was a lightning strike. We won’t know what happened until law enforcement completes its investigation. The Childers’ version is one I had not heard until Tuesday night.
I condemn all acts of intimidation and bullying.
Bruce Childers is certainly not a snow flake, how do you feel about Bruce and Pam’s vehicle being Blown to pieces Rick, do you condemn or condone that activity?
