National Lighthouse Day – Wednesday, Aug. 7

The Coast Guard and the Pensacola Lighthouse Maritime Museum are scheduled to host a National Lighthouse Day celebration at the Pensacola Lighthouse Maritime Museum, Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The family-friendly educational event will include a 26-foot trailer-able aids-to-navigation boat (TANB) static display, bounce houses, yard games, free tours, and food. A representative from Coast Guard ANT Pensacola will be available for an interview to discuss the TANB mission and the Coast Guard’s work at the lighthouse. Parking will be available at the museum.

  • In 1789, Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers. To celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Act and the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse, Congress passed a resolution designating August 7, 1989, as National Lighthouse Day.
  • Built in 1859, the Pensacola Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. General admission guests can climb the historic lighthouse tower, and explore our exhibits in the Richard C. Callaway Museum, housed in the restored 1869 keeper’s quarters.
