“Over the past 24 hours, I have received dozens of calls from across the country inquiring about my level of interest in running for the vacated District 1 Congressional seat. I am humbled by the support and confidence in my abilities to lead in that capacity.
However, I have made a commitment to the citizens of Escambia County who have reelected me, without opposition, to serve as the Sheriff. Serving this great community as Sheriff is both an honor and a responsibility that I take to heart. The challenges we face locally demand my full attention. For now, I believe I can make the greatest impact right here at home.
The names of many qualified potential candidates have been making the rounds, and I intend to lend my support to the individual that will bring the level of common sense and decency to Washington, D.C. that this area deserves.”
