City names interim Parks & Rec director

The City of Pensacola has appointed Kerry Shanaghan as the Interim Director of Parks and Recreation. Shanaghan brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community engagement.

Military Background and Experience

Shanaghan previously served as the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation and Child and Youth Programs director at Naval Air Station Pensacola, where he was instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for service members and their families through innovative recreational programs and events. His tenure at NAS Pensacola was marked by successful initiatives that fostered community spirit and well-being.

“I am honored to take on this role and look forward to working with the dedicated team at Pensacola Parks and Recreation,” said Shanaghan. “Together, we will continue to provide exceptional recreational opportunities that enrich the lives of our residents and visitors.”

New Role and Responsibilities

As Interim Director, Shanaghan will oversee the department’s operations, including the management of parks, recreational facilities and community programs. His leadership is expected to guide the department through a seamless transition while maintaining the high standards of service that the community has come to expect.
