State Rep. Michelle Salzman needs help for her back-to-school initiative. The District One Food Distribution and Backpack Giveaway, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, needs volunteers to help ensure its success.
The event, hosted at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church, 6205 North W St., aims to serve at least 300 families with free food boxes, backpacks, and lunch boxes. Vehicle lineup begins at 6 a.m., and all items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This event is about more than school supplies—it’s about dignity, hope, and ensuring that families in our community have what they need to start the school year strong,” said Rep. Salzman.
The initiative is made possible through a partnership with FarmShare and numerous community sponsors, including the Krewe of Priscus, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, International Paper, Florida Power & Light, Florida Department of Health, KIA Autosport of Pensacola, Kool Companies, State Farm and Ace Unlocks.
Volunteers from all backgrounds are encouraged to participate, including student groups, athletic teams, and local organizations. This represents an excellent opportunity for community service hours, team-building activities, and making a tangible difference in neighbors’ lives during the crucial back-to-school season.
The volunteer experience offers hands-on community engagement, allowing participants to directly witness the positive impact of collective community action while helping families prepare for the upcoming school year.
