Gulf Winds Credit Union has launched an innovative community engagement initiative that extends its participation in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Day beyond traditional volunteer activities. The “Written in the Walls” program creates a permanent connection between community supporters and housing recipients through a unique approach to fundraising and relationship building.
Details: The credit union will deploy 20 volunteers to participate in the October 1 Women Build event, contributing to the construction of a new home for a qualifying local family. However, the organization has developed a pre-construction engagement strategy that maximizes community participation and creates lasting impact.
- Pink frame boards, which will serve as actual structural components in the completed home, have been strategically placed in Gulf Winds branch locations across Alabama, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. These boards provide community members with the opportunity to contribute messages of support that will be permanently incorporated into the home’s construction.
According to Pola Young, Director of Community Engagement at Gulf Winds Credit Union, this approach represents a commitment to long-term community investment.
- “These inspiring messages of hope will become part of the very foundation of the home, ” said Young. “It’s a lasting reminder that our support goes beyond a single day of volunteerism. We’re helping to build a future filled with strength, security, and community.”
Giving Back, One Message at a Time
In addition to signing the pink boards, participants are encouraged to make a donation, which will directly support Gulf Winds’ fundraising goal. Donations can be made using a QR code posted next to the boards or at the teller line, and every dollar will go toward the team’s $20,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity, set to be presented on-site during the build.
How to Participate:
- Look for the Pink Boards and Sharpies in your local Gulf Winds branch lobby.
- Add your signature and a heartfelt message of hope for the future homeowners.
- Make a donation using the posted QR code or at the teller line.
- Share the opportunity with fellow community members and friends to grow the impact.
