BP settlement could be good news for Corrine Jones project

Puzzle
In July, County Administrator Eric Olson told the Pensacola City Council that the proposed Government Street Regional Stormwater Pond at Corrine Jones Park was placed on hold because the bids had come back higher than the grant funds received.

Over half of the recently announced BP settlement has been earmarked for stormwater projects–$2.3 million. A portion of that could go to the Corrine Jones project that was first announced in November 2013.

The Government Street Regional Stormwater Pond at Corrine Jones Park will capture and treat stormwater runoff from 40 acres in downtown Pensacola that currently discharges untreated runoff directly into Pensacola Bay. It’s also critical to future development of the west side of downtown Pensacola.

If the city moves quickly, it might be able to meet its original completion date of December 2016.
