Breaking: DeSantis Signs Requests for Public & Personal Assistance, Heads to President

Breaking News

Escambia County Administrator Wes Moreno has informed the Board of County Commissioners that Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed requests for pulbic and personal assistance and has submitted them to President Donald Trump for approval.

Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore praised residents for self-reporting their losses, which made the process much easier than in past storms.

Under the U.S. disaster response system, when a state faces a severe disaster—such as a major hurricane—that overwhelms its local resources, the governor must sign a request for a federal Major Disaster Declaration and submit it to the U.S. President for approval.
