Breaking: Tire Fire Creates Breathing Hazard

Breaking News

Those driving across the Chappie James Bridge into Pensacola this morning notice the huge plume of black smoke coming from West Pensacola. Twenty minutes ago, the Pensacola Fire Department posted the first official notice of what is happening:

Pensacola Fire Department crews have been on the scene of a fire at EMR Southern Recycling on Myrick Street. Crews have been working the fire, which is 70 percent contained as of 7:45 a.m., since just before 2 a.m. Our partners at Escambia County Emergency Management released this map of highlighting the area that the smoke plume from the fire may impact. Residents with respiratory illnesses are advised to take precautions.

The map was not posted by Escambia County Emergency Management until after FPD sent its report. As you can see, the area impacted  by  the smoke stretches past the Marcus Point Golf Course.
