If Brownsville was inside the city limits of Pensacola, would it have been allowed to deteriorate to level it was before Operation Brownsville?
No, the Pensacola Police Department, the City’s code enforcement and neighborhoods departments would have been fighting to improve that area on a daily basis.
Escambia County government is poorly equipped to deal with urban problems. The Pensacola city limits need to be expanded. The new expanded city limits would include potentially high tax revenue areas like Car City and Nine Mile Road, but also areas that will require more services like Brownsville and Warrington.
Many of the battles between the paid and volunteer fire departments in the county would go away as the fire stations would move under the City’s umbrella.
The County budget would shrink considerably since its area of coverage would be cut. It could focus on roads, drainage and economic development.
